At Augusta Masters, Scottie Scheffler won his first major championship with a score of 278, 10-under-par, three shots ahead of Rory McIlroy in his first tournament as World No. 1. Scheffler’s victory was his fourth in six PGA Tour events since February.

Scheffler had a three-shot lead going into the third round, but it was cut to one after Cameron Smith birdied his opening two holes. Scheffler, on the other hand, denied Smith the chance to reduce the distance with a succession of well-placed strokes. Cameron Smith tied for third place with Shane Lowry at the Augusta Masters.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy started the day 10 strokes behind Scheffler but made four birdies on his first nine holes. He then chipped in for birdie on the 10th, eagled the par-5 13th, and hit a shot from a greenside bunker on the 18th for a final-round score of 64 (–8), tying a Masters record for the lowest final-round score. He finished at seven-under par and moved up to solo second, his best performance in the tournament.
