2023 Asian Games women’s football upcoming schedule, date, venue, format, & participating teams
While Chinese Taipei, ranked 38th in the world, dominated possession, India, positioned at 61st in the FIFA rankings, displayed a determined defense and generated their share of scoring opportunities. Following the halftime break, the Indian women’s football team promptly capitalized, seizing the lead. Anju Tamang, on a spirited run, located Manisha Kalyan inside the Chinese Taipei penalty area. Kalyan reciprocated with a well-placed cross, which the 27-year-old Tamang skillfully converted, granting India a 1-0 advantage. Nevertheless, a cleverly executed free-kick strategy led by 35-year-old midfielder Li-Chin Lai enabled Chinese Taipei to equalize the score.
Inspired by their equalizer, Chinese Taipei intensified their offensive efforts. Hsin Hui Lin came close to giving them the lead, but Shreya Hooda’s outstanding save at the near post denied them. However, the game-changing moment occurred in the 84th minute when Yu-Hsuan Su seized upon a defensive mistake, calmly slotting the ball into an unguarded Indian net. Although India pushed for an equalizing goal in the closing moments, Chinese Taipei held firm to secure a come-from-behind victory.
