The Indian men’s hockey team completely dominated the opponents as they thrashed Uzbekistan 16-0 in their opening Asian Games game at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China.

The Indian hockey team, which is now ranked third in the FIH Rankings, went into the Hangzhou Games with a lot of confidence after winning the Asian Champions Trophy last month.
Returning to the match, Mandeep Singh, Varun Kumar, and Lalit Upadhyay stood apart from the rest of the field by each scoring hat tricks. Varun Kumar (12′, 36′, 50′, 51′), Abhishek (17′), Mandeep Singh (18′, 27′, 28′), Amit Rohidas (38′), Sukhjeet (42′), Shamsher Singh (43′), and Sanjay (57′) all scored for India during the decisive victory.
As many as 14 penalty corners were awarded to India, but just five were converted. The team’s management, led by coach Craig Fulton, would undoubtedly want to consider this, since the future games are anticipated to put the unit to the test.
Harmanpreet Singh’s decision to withdraw was announced before the Pool A match had started. He was well-rested after sharing the duty of being the event’s joint flag bearer with Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain on Saturday, September 23 during the opening ceremony.
With a gold medal in the Asiad, India will be guaranteed a direct entry to the 2024 Paris Olympics. They won’t have to participate in the qualifying competition if they take home the gold. Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore and Uzbekistan are the other countries involved in Pool A alongside India.
India’s next match is now scheduled for Tuesday, September 26 against Singapore. In their debut game of the Asian Games 2023 on Sunday, the Pakistan hockey team smashed Singapore, winning astoundingly 11-0.
