At the Asian Games 2023, Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy advanced to the quarter-finals in the women’s and men’s singles events, respectively. On the same day, former world No.1 Kidambi Srikanth was eliminated in the round of 16 of the men’s singles competition.

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist currently ranked 15th in the world, secured her quarter-final berth by defeating Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani, who is ranked 34th globally. The match began evenly, but PV Sindhu gradually gained control in the first game. In the second game, she initially trailed 1-4 but staged a comeback and eventually won the match in 55 minutes.

In a separate match at the Binjiang Gymnasium courts, HS Prannoy, India’s highest-ranked male shuttler at world No. 7, comfortably secured his spot in the men’s singles quarter-finals with a 21-12, 21-13 victory over Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Panarin. However, Kidambi Srikanth’s campaign at the Asian Games 2023 came to an end as he lost 21-16, 21-17 to Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in the pre-quarterfinals.

India’s men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, also advanced to the quarter-finals after a hard-fought 24-22, 16-21, 21-12 win over Indonesia’s Leo Rollycarnando and Daniel Marthin in an 84-minute match. In the women’s events, the pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand was eliminated after a 15-21, 21-18, 13-21 defeat to Soyeong Kim and Heeyong Kong of South Korea in the round of 16.

Another Indian women’s team, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, also exited the competition with a 13-21, 21-23 loss to the Chinese pair of Shuxian Zhang and Yu Zheng in the round of 16. Tanisha Crasto’s campaign in mixed doubles, alongside partner K Sai Pratheek, also concluded with a 21-18, 21-18 loss to the Malaysian pair of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in the round of 16.
