Ashley Westwood, a Burnley midfielder, was stretchered off the London Stadium pitch and rushed to hospital after suffering a serious leg injury that will keep him out for some time.

There was instant alarm as Westwood collided with West Ham player Nikola Vlasic midway through the first half of Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League match.
Vlasic was in tears and needed to be consoled by his Hammers teammates, particularly captain Declan Rice, who swiftly informed doctors to Vlasic’s wounded leg.
As the medical staff responded to Westwood, Aaron Cresswell was also extremely unhappy.

Westwood Suffered An Ankle Fracture
The Burnley player had challenged Vlasic for the ball, but his leg appeared to buckle, and the events that followed were disturbing.
The Burnley ace was placed on a stretcher and given oxygen during a nine-minute treatment on the pitch, which caused a lengthy halt in play. As he was escorted off the pitch at the London Stadium, the audience erupted in cheers.
Westwood, 32, was rushed to hospital after the match with a suspected dislocated and fractured ankle, according to Burnley interim manager Mike Jackson, who is filling in after Sean Dyche’s stunning resignation.
Official Club Statement
Ashley Westwood suffered a significant ankle injury today, according to a post-match Burnley statement. “He’s doing OK, according to the club doctor, and will be evaluated by a specialist in the following days. Everyone at the club wishes him the best of luck in his recovery.”
Burnley also said he is ‘doing fine’ on Twitter on Sunday evening.
Westwood was treated on the pitch for several minutes before being carried away on a stretcher amid ovation from both sides of the stadium.
