Arsene Wenger Predicted Gini Wijnaldum Liverpool Exit And Lionel Messi PSG Free Transfers In 2017

Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was able to predict the fate and free transfers of Gini Wijnaldum and Lionel Messi much before anyone in the footballing world could

Even though we saw Gini Wijnaldum move from Liverpool to PSG this year, ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger saw this coming four years ago.

Wenger predicted Wijnaldum’s move way back in 2017 when no one would have even thought of the Dutch midfielder leaving Anfield to join the French giants at the Parc Des Princes.

Lionel Messi Signs For PSG On A Free Transfer From FC Barcelona

PSG have really made history in 2021 by signing arguably the greatest player of all-time, Lionel Andres Messi. After 21 years at FC Barcelona, Messi was forced to leave barca this year due to the Catalan club’s ongoing financial crisis.

But Messi is just one of the great players signed by PSG this year. The French giants have also gone on to sign Gigi Donnarumma from AC Milan, Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid, Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan and Gigi Wijnaldum from Liverpool.

Arsene Wenger Had Predicted The Format Of Lionel Messi-esque Free Transfers Back In 2017

Arsene Wenger was already able to foresee the kind of moves that we are witnessing at the moment in 2017.  He knew that big deals like the ones mentioned above would not be unusual at all.

This is what the ex-Arsenal manager said back then: “I think in the future, you will see it more and more. Why? Because the transfers are so high, even for normal players.”

“You will see more and more players going into the final year of the contract because no club will want to pay the amount demanded in the next 10 years, it will become usual.”

Georginio Wijnaldum Seals Free Transfer From Liverpool To PSG

Gigi Wijnaldum was first linked with a move to FC Barcelona last year, to reunite with fellow Dutchman and former national team coach Ronald Koeman. However, he stayed at Anfield and played in all the 38 league games for LFC.

Wijnaldum however went on to join PSG in a move that was very sudden and surprising. Either way, the Dutchman will be playing alongside Lionel Messi this season.

So I guess we can all agree that Arsene Wenger’s far-sightedness and wisdom is what truly makes him a pioneering visionary.
