Arsenal concluded the last Sunday in second place after dominating the league for a record-breaking 248 days. “Go again with more determination and hunger in our tummies,” Mikel Arteta exhorted his losers.
In a couple decades of failure, this campaign was the most successful. It’s not shameful that the Gunners were the only team to challenge City’s dominance given the continued lack of a deterrent against financial doping because few people expected them to place in the top four.
However, given the absence of cup and European distractions at the end, there is a sense that Arsenal may be waiting a while for a better title-winning opportunity. The question now for Mikel Arteta is if he can increase the squad’s depth sufficiently so that the Gunners come in the final stretch of the season looking less exhausted.
Arsenal FC pre-season tour 2023 schedule, dates, time, fixtures, tickets, teams, venue
As it did prior to the 2022–23 season, Arsenal will travel to the US to prepare for the following season. The MLS All-Stars will visit the Gunners on July 19 as their first stop on their tour.
A star-studded team will take against the Arsenal at the Audi Field in Washington, DC, including Wayne Rooney, who famously scored his first Premier League goal against them in 2002 as a 16-year-old for Everton. Three days later, Arsenal flies 230 miles to New Jersey to face Premier League rival Manchester United.
Fans wishing to attend the pre-season tour friendly games will be able to buy tickets through the official Arsenal website and Ticketmaster.
Arsenal pre-season 2023 fixtures & results
Premier League start date
Arsenal has been given the honour of playing the first match in each of the previous three Premier League campaigns. The 2023–24 season will officially start on Saturday, August 12, if the Gunners are awarded permission to compete for a fourth straight season.
Brentford famously destroyed Arsenal in their inaugural Premier League match two years previously, but Arteta led his team to a commanding 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the summer of 2022, setting the tone for a season full of promise.
Champions League start date
The bond between Guardiola and Arteta has lasted despite the two of them vying for the 2023 Premier League title, Guardiola has always made a point of highlighting. But when he referred to Arsenal’s Champions League qualification as “the most important title of the season” in May, the Catalan made a subtly insulting remark about the Gunners.
Even though it stung at the time, Arsenal’s chances of winning the title weren’t completely gone, so it wasn’t all bad. Also, making it to Europe’s top competition for the first time since 2017 is a significant achievement. The Gunners’ first Champions League match in nearly six years will occur on September 19 and 20.
After losing 5-1 at home to Bayern Munich, Arsenal’s final encounter in the campaign resulted in a humiliating 2-10 total defeat. Given the club’s struggles in the Europa League this season, Arsenal might enter the Champions League group stage with trepidation.
The 2022–23 season saw the Gunners have a 100% losing record in England’s cup tournaments as the Premier League swiftly replaced the league as Arsenal’s top priority.
Southampton was the only team to be eliminated from the Premier League before the last day of the season, yet they proceeded further than Arsenal in both competitions.
Due to defeats in the third round of the FA Cup to City and the Carabao Cup to Brighton, two of the top six teams in the division, it wasn’t an easy run. The next year, though, Arsenal will take part in both competitions at the same level.
Unfortunately, no specific dates for that advanced stage of any cup tournament have been given by the Football Association or the Football League.
