Using armor trims, Minecraft players can reportedly apply patterns to their favorite armor and add new and improved appearances.

Although not confirmed, players can assume that the core gameplay facts about armor trims should will remain intact by the time 1.20 update gets fully released.
Minecraft 1.20 update armor trims
Minecraft players can now add a wide variety of trims to all armor that are iron quality or higher using a Smithing table. However, players should note that these trims are purely cosmetic and do not offer any gameplay benefits or additional boosts.
Smithing template items
In order to add armor trims, Minecraft players need to also obtain new smithing template items. Players can find these templates by looting generated structures and replicate them by combining seven diamonds with an item. While doing this, make sure to use the same smithing template material, and an additional smithing template.
Altogether, there are a total of 11 armor trim smithing templates. Minecraft players can find each Armor Trim Smithing Template in the places listed below:
- Coast Trim – Shipwreck chests
- Dune Trim – Desert temple chests
- Eye Trim – Stronghold chests
- Rib Trim – Nether fortress chests
- Sentry Trim – Pillager outpost chests
- Snout Trim – Bastion remnant chests
- Spire Trim – End city chests
- Tide Trim – Ocean monument chests
- Vex Trim – Woodland mansion chests
- Ward Trim – Ancient city chests
- Wild Trim – Jungle temple chests
Once Minecraft players have their desired template, they need to obtain the material to apply it with. Based on the materials used, the players can make the trim appear with different colorations and sheens.
In total, players can apply up to 10 different materials to a template. Minecraft players can’t apply a template of one particular material to an armor of the same type.

Once Minecraft players have gathered their desired template, materials, and the armor, which they wish to trim, they can follow the steps below:
- Open the smithing table
- Place the items in their respective slots
- Remove the newly-trimmed armor
One all this is done, players can equip themselves with the new trimmed armor and show off their unique flair.
