Lee Zii Jia put an end to a 17-month dry spell without a BWF World Tour title when he triumphed over his compatriot, Ng Tze Yong, in the Arctic Open 2023 final on Sunday. The 2021 All England badminton champion achieved a decisive victory, taking only 39 minutes to secure a 21-14, 21-15 win and claim the Super 500 event held in Vantaa, Finland. Seizing this opportunity, as several top players opted to rest following the Asian Games and in preparation for the Super 750 Denmark Open, the 25-year-old capitalized on the situation and earned his fourth BWF World Tour title of his career.
In an all-Chinese women’s singles final, Han Yue secured the most significant BWF Tour title of her career by defeating Wang Zhi Yi. Han, who previously achieved a gold medal at the World University Games in August, faced a challenging situation after losing the first game and having to save a championship point. However, the 23-year-old ultimately triumphed by winning the decider 21-12 after an intense match lasting one hour and 19 minutes.
Meanwhile, China’s Feng Yanzhe and Olympic champion Huang Dongping, who had previously won bronze in mixed doubles at the Asian Games, added another victory to their record by clinching their sixth title of the year with a comfortable straight-games win over fellow Chinese players Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin.
