According to the most recent BWF Junior rankings, Anupama Upadhyaya has become the only second Indian shuttler to earn the top title in the under-19 girls’ singles division. On Tuesday, she took over first place from fellow Indian Tasnim Mir.

Tasnim Mir, who is ranked second, and two 14-year-olds named Anwesha Gowda and Unnati Hooda make up the Top 10 list of female shuttlers who are from India. Anupama is just the sixth Indian shuttler overall to be ranked first in the junior rankings.

Who Is Anupama Upadhyaya?
Anupama Upadhyaya is an Indian badminton player. She has been in the news because she recently ranked first in the BWF Junior rankings.
She is from Panchkula, Haryana but is currently living in Delhi. Her family hails from Almora, Uttarakhand. She is currently 17 years old. Her father’s name is Naveen Upadhyaya.
She is a student of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy under coach Vimal and mentor Prakash Padukone.
Her Career
Prior to earning the U-15 national singles championship in Orissa in 2019, Anupama Upadhyaya won the U-13 national singles and doubles titles at Vijayawada. From that point on, she began focusing solely on the singles category.
Before making it to the quarterfinals of the tournament’s second series in 2019, the young player also advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Asian Junior Badminton Championships in Myanmar in 2018. At the BAI U-19 Nationals the same year, the young athlete took home the bronze medal.
Anupama Upadhyaya won Poland Challenge (Arlamow) earlier this year, and she also advanced to the semifinals of the Syed Modi India International Super 300 series.
She won the Infosys Foundation International Challenge Tournament, and she also competed in the semifinals of the Pune Junior International Grand Prix and the quarterfinals of the Orleans Open, a Super 100 Series tournament held in Orleans, France.
She was defeated by the eventual champion Saranuk Vitdsarn of Thailand in this competition. She recently finished in second place in the Panchkula Haryana Senior State Championship.
She will take part in the North Zone Tournament in Jammu from September 8 to 11 in addition to competing in international competitions. From September 13 to September 18, the Nagpur International is slated, followed by the Raipur International from September 20 to September 25, and the Vietnam Open from September 27 to October 2.
