Antonio Conte lashes out at players and club owners
Antonio Conte’s recent sacking comes after the Italian manager lashed out at his players and the club owner on Saturday. The incident occurred during a post-match interview after the draw with Southampton in the Premier League.
Conte went out to call his players as “selfish” and also attacked the club as a whole. He also called out on their owner, stating how they have presided over an era, which has yielded little success in the club’s history.
Tottenham set to pay compensation package to Conte and his team
Conte’s £15m-a-year deal contract was initially due to expire this summer. However, with three months left in the deal and Conte set for a move, his early exit will see him receive £4m from Tottenham. Aside from Conte, the club will also have to pay for his staff.
Following the recent developments, Spurs chiefs have appointed Cristian Stelleni as their acting head coach for the rest of the season. Ryan Mason will serve as the assistant coach alongside the Italian. Conte’s current net worth is at $12 million.
List of potential new managers for Tottenham
With Conte out of the picture Tottenham owner Daniel Levy is again on the lookout for a potential new manager. Tottenham currently have 10 league games remaining this season and are looking for to secure a fourth placed finish.
The club is eager to win a Champions League spot for next season. Despite this, the club have been performing rather inconsistently with Newcastle and Liverpool breathing down their necks.
Given below are some potential candidates whom Daniel Levy could bring in as a replacement:
- Mauricio Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino is one of the top names linked with the role. Interestingly, he had a successful stint with the club between 2014 – 2019. However, the Argentine could have issues with the club hierarchy having previously left the club due to the lack of investment in the squad.
- Luis Enrique
Former Barcelona and Spain national team head coach currently out of work.
- Roberto De Zerbi
Head coach of Brighton Hove Albion.
- Marco Silva
Head coach of Premier League club Fulham.
The Harry Kane issue
Besides dealing with the managerial problem, Tottenham also have another issue with the uncertainty surrounding the departure of Harry Kane. Kane is currently the team captain and the club’s top scorer. Kane is set to enter the final year of his deal this summer and is still yet to sign a renewal. At the moment, there are rumours of a potential Manchester United move for the striker. The veteran striker desires to win the first trophy of his career.
