The Madurai Book Fair 2022
The minister for commercial taxes and registration, Mr. P Moorthy inaugurated the Madurai Book Fair 2022 before going around the stalls accompanied by collector Aneesh Sekhar and other officials.
During the inaugural session, finance minister P T R Palanivel Thiaga Rajan delivered the inaugural address where he stated that the mega book exhibition was organised as part of Chief Minister MK Stalin’s reading movement.
PTR recalled in his speech that the book fairs used to be held in Madurai. He revealed how they were very useful because everyone referred to books back then since there was no internet.
He said:
Until now, BAPASI had been organising the book exhibition by itself since 2005. This is the first time, due to the keen interest of our chief minister with the financial support of the government along with BAPASI, that we organized the book exhibition here.
He further stated the importance of reading books to the students present there.
I used to read two books in a week. The reading habit helped me to get handsome results during my studies. My attendance was not good and I used to bunk but never stopped reading books.
Reading books apart from academics will enhance knowledge in all levels including current affairs, politics and economic developments.
PTR further reminded the public about the chief minister’s reassurance to hold the book fairs across the state with the support of the government. He also reminded that the Madurai Book Fair will be an annual event.
