Andrew Ayew Released By Swansea City After Contract Comes To An End, Wayne Routledge Offered New Deal

Despite spearheading the club’s attack successfully across the last two years, Ghana’s Andrew Ayew has not been retained by Swansea City after his contract came to an end

Despite being the top scorer in two seasons on the bounce for Swansea City, Andrew Ayew has been let go by the club. With his contract running out this summer, Ayew has been asked to leave as a free agent by the Swans who released their retained list today following the culmination of the 2020-21 season.

Andrew Ayew Released By Swansea As Contract Runs Out

The move has left the club’s ardent supporters flummoxed with Aye become a pivotal figure for the side under Steve Cooper. With 47 goals in his kitty across the last two campaigns, the Ghana based player had made full use of his ability to come up with scorching hits to pull off goals at crucial junctures for the club.

Ayew isn’t the only player who has been released though Declan John, Barrie McKay and Jordi Govea all being relieved of their duties at the club.

Wayne Routledge Offered New Deal

Meanwhile, the club has decided to dish out an extension to striker Wayne Routledge. Routledge who was out of contract this summer as well has been asked to stay at the club.

The striker has been serving the club for the last ten years, a period which has seen him emerge as a crucial figure upfront for the side. His absence in the Championship playoff final for Swansea was a colossal blow to the club with the side failing to defeat Brentford without Wayne’s services.

Wayne was rendered on the sidelines after suffering a severe knee injury against Barnsley in the semi-finals. That injury hasn’t refrained Swansea from reposing faith in his services with Wayne being asked to stay at the club for another year.
