Amy’s family shifted to Georgia where she completed her high schooling and college and further graduated from Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia. She attended Georgia University with high honors in broadcast journalism. She was regarded as the 4th runner-up in the 1995 Miss Georgia pageant.
