On February 13, 1994, Muzumdar, who is now 48 years old, made his first-class debut for Bombay against Haryana. He later scored an unbeaten 260 in the Ranji Trophy pre-quarterfinal match.

Muzumdar eventually amassed 538 runs from 11 games, including two century and the same number of fifty-plus scores.

Muzumdar was dropped out of the Mumbai team for the Buchi Babu competition in August 2009, and a year later, ahead of the Ranji Trophy, he changed his allegiance to Assam. After moving to Andhra in 2012, Muzumdar played there for a few seasons until announcing his first-class retirement in 2014.
