After falling to Zhang Yi Man on Wednesday, Indian shuttler PV Sindhu crashed out from the first round of the All England Open Championships. In the 39-minute women’s singles match, the world No. 9 Sindhu, fell 17-21, 11-21.

The two-time Olympic medalist from India, PV Sindhu, was eliminated in the first round of the women’s singles match after losing to Zhang Yiman of China 21-17, 21-11. Although being heavily pressed by Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour, Rio 2016 Olympic champion Carolina Marin prevailed over her usual European foe by scoring significant points when she needed them. After winning 21-19, 21-17, the Spaniard qualified for the round of 16.

Yamaguchi Akane, the current champion, moved on to the second-round quickly by defeating Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in 30 minutes. Following her 21-9, 21-10 over Mia, she will encounter Yvonne Li from Germany. Three-time champion Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei advanced to the second-round with an equally calm victory over Kim Ga-eun by score of 21-10, 21-12. An Se-young, the number two seed from the Republic of Korea, triumphed by the same scoreline against Wen Chi Hsu from Chinese Taipei.

2023 All England Open: BWF points award system

Each All England champion would receive a total of 12,000 BWF points, with roughly 10,200 points going to the runner-up in each category. PV Sindhu, a former Olympic medalist, will leave with only 3,000 BWF points after falling to in-form Chinese player Zhang Yi Man in the opening round.

2023 All England Open: prize money distribution

Each singles category champion at the 2018 BWF Super 1000 All England Open will get $87,500 from the tournament’s $1,250,000 total prize fund. The runners-up in women’s singles will receive $42,500 in contrast to the $17,500 awarded to semi-final losers. PV Sindhu and Katethong only received $1,250 since they were abruptly ousted in the first round.
