Alex Albon joins Williams for the new 2022 F1 season, know his contract, salary, net worth
25-years-old Thailand-born British driver will return to Formula 1 after a disappointing end result with Red Bull. Williams were in constant talks with Valtteri Bottas who began his F1 career with Williams but he opted for Alfa Romeo for the remainder of his career.
Albon will partner with Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi who is entrusted with the responsibility of leading the team. This might be a great opportunity for both the drivers and especially for Alex Albon who needs to revive his Formula 1 career.
Williams boss Jost Capito said-
“It is fantastic to be able to confirm our driver line-up for 2022 and I am delighted to be welcoming Alex to the team, along with confirming our continued relationship with Nicholas into next year.”
Albon had a base salary of $650,000 at Red Bull F1 team in 2020 with him taking home $30,925 per race. His current net worth is said to stand at $1 million with him making an additional $200,000 from endorsement deals by companies like MDM Design and Moose Cider.
Alex Albon Journey to Formula 1
Albon started racing in 2015 at a very tender age of 8 progressing through the youth ranks and learning along the way. Meanwhile, he also joined RedBull’s junior driver’s academy and stepped up in Formula 2 in 2017, and impressed everybody with his passion for driving and determination.
In 2018, he was the second runner-up in the F2 championship just missing out on the title to George Russell. His extraordinary performances in F2 earned him a seat in Formula 1 with Toro Rosso now Alpha Tauri.
He began 2019 in tremendous form and earned a promotion to the Red Bull team replacing struggling Piere Gasly. His first season was satisfactory with Albon missing out on podium finishes on two occasions.
However, tables turn quickly in Formula 1 and after successive disappointing results, Albon was demoted to the test and reserve driver for Red Bull. He was replaced by Sergio Perez in 2020 who has done a good job since joining Red Bull.
