Alex Albon Undergoes Appendix surgery
Alex Albon, the 26-year-old Thai-British driver who drives for F1 team Williams underwent and appendix surgery on September 11.
Following the surgery, Albon suffered a respiratory failure due to which doctors had to him under the ventilator.
However, his situation has since improved and as of now, Williams have revealed that Alex Albon would return home on Tuesday as doctors have discharged him from the ventilator on September 11.
The impact of the incident
The frightful incident means that Alex Albon was not able to race in Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Instead, Williams’ reserve driver Nyck de Vries replaced Albon for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix where Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won.
Williams statement on the incident
F1 team, Williams have announced that Alex Albon would return home on Tuesday. Doctors have discharged Albion from the ventilator since the morning of September 11 and he is now back in a general ward in Monza, Italy.
Williams released an official statement on Alex Albon’s health saying:
“Further to Alex Albon’s diagnosis of appendicitis on the morning of Saturday 10 September, he was admitted to hospital for treatment. He underwent successful surgery on Saturday lunchtime.”
“Following surgery, Alex suffered with unexpected post-operative anaesthetic complications which led to respiratory failure, a known but uncommon complication. He was re-intubated and transferred to intensive care for support. He made excellent progress overnight and was able to be removed from mechanical ventilation yesterday morning.
“Despite the scare, F1 team Williams do not see the unexpected incident as a major setback for Alex Albon. In fact, Albon will probably compete in the Singapore Grand Prix on September 30 as Williams claimed his “full focus is on recovery and preparation.”
