2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour’s penultimate leg will run from 14th to 21st October and will be known as Aimchess Rapid Cup. Following his runner-up achievement in Julius Baer Generation Cup, Arjun Erigaisi will enter this tournament as one of favorites but winning ahead of reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen is bound to be an uphill task.

2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 8 – Aimchess Rapid Format, Schedule, Date, Time, & Participants
2022 edition of Aimchess Rapid, which takes place on chess24 from October 14–21, is the eighth of nine tournaments on the $1.6 million 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. Following culmination of 4-day round-robin Prelims, half of the 16-player field will advance to next round. The Prelims will include a $150,000 prize pool, with $750 going to winners and $250 going to losers. Ultimately, tournament final will be played over two days with each day consisting of four matches as opposed to quarterfinal and semifinal of one-day & four-match format.
With each subsequent move lasting an additional 10 seconds, the players have 15 minutes to complete all of their movements. There are 3 points awarded for a victory in the Prelims and 1 for a tie. The players will play two 5+3 games in the event of a tie, followed, if necessary, by one Armageddon game in which White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, although a draw counts as a win for Black. Before move 40, draw offers are not permitted.
2022 Aimchess Rapid will feature a star-studded line-up of 16 players including superstars like Magnus Carlsen, Anish Giri, Richard Rapport, and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. In this tournament, a total of twelve countries including India will participate with India being the only country to feature multiple players at five.
Harikrishna and Vidit, two seasoned stars, were on fire as their side won the European Club Cup in Mayrhofen, Austria, yesterday. Arjun Erigaisi, who advanced to the Julius Baer Generation Cup final, will once again be one of the favorites, but this time he will be joined by Gukesh, a 16-year-old who is already ranked 18th in the world.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 8 – Aimchess Rapid 2022 Prize Money Pool Distribution
Up to $90,000 in in-game prizes are up for grabs, and the remaining prizes will be given out based on how each player places. The overall prize pool for the contest is $150,000, and the winner of the prestigious event will receive a prize of $25,000 as well.
