2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 8 – Aimchess Rapid Format, Schedule, Date, Time, & Participants
The eighth of nine events on the $1.6 million 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour is the 2022 edition of Aimchess Rapid, which is broadcast on chess24 from October 14–21. Following the conclusion of four-day round-robin preliminary round, half of the 16-player field will move on to the next phase. In contrast to the quarterfinal and semifinal, which were played over one day and four matches, the competition final will be contested over two days with four matches on each day.
With each subsequent move lasting an additional 10 seconds, the players have 15 minutes to complete all of their movements. There are 3 points awarded for a victory in the Prelims and 1 for a tie. In the event of a tie, the players will play two 5+3 games, followed, if required, by one Armageddon game where White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, however a draw counts as a win for Black. Draw offers cannot be accepted before completion of move 40.

2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 8 – Aimchess Rapid Day 1 Results, Score, Winners, And Latest Standings
On Friday at Aimchess Rapid tournament, each player played total four rounds of rapid matches and after culmination of day, Nodirbek Abdusattorov sits at top of standings with 10 points from maximum of 12 points. Behind the leader, Magnus Carlsen, Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov all are tied at second-place with 7 points. Highlight result from Friday was Mamedyarov’s win against reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen. Among five Indian participants, Gukesh turned out to be best performer of day with 6/12 points ahead of pre-tournament favorite Arjun Erigaisi with 5/12 points.
Carlsen, who is going for a hat-trick of tournament victories and fifth on 2022 Tour, had a rocky start to the competition, which was highlighted by his final-round tie against Mittal. Before astoundingly defeating Anish Giri in the third round and losing his subsequent match to Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Mamedyarov defeated Carlsen in his first match of day. Prior to his match versus Carlsen, Mittal defeated Swede Nils Grandelius to earn his maiden Tour victory in debut match.
