Have a look the full list and past winners of the African Footballer Of The Year and the player winner in 2022
Another African football player of the year has been formally recognised after a two-year gap caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Since 1992, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the African Footballer of the Year award to the finest African player each year. Between 1970 and 1994, France Football magazine presented the Golden Ball Award for African Footballer of the Year. Abedi Pele and George Weah received parallel Golden Ball honours from the magazine in 1993 and 1994, despite the fact that Rashidi Yekini and Emmanuel Amuneke won the CAF-sponsored awards during those years, respectively, and that Abedi Pele received two prizes in 1992.
African Player Of The Year 2022 Winner And All Time Footballer Winners List
Sadio Mane, who recently joined Bayern Munich, won the prize for 2022, beating out Edouard Mendy of Chelsea and Mohamed Salah, a former teammate at Liverpool.
In addition, Mane won the African Footballer of the Year title in 2019 after finishing second to Salah in both 2018 and 2017.
Instead of a single calendar year, performance over the previous season is now taken into account while awarding the honour.
Elsewhere at the CAF Awards, Asisat Oshoala was named the women’s winner for a record fifth time and Pape Matar Sarr took out Young Player of the Year.
Senegal won the Cup of Nations and qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to Mane’s penalties in the 2021–22 season.
Mane assisted Liverpool in winning the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup at the club level, but the Reds were unsuccessful in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
