So which are the top 5 countries who can clinch the title for the biggest football competition in the African continent? Let’s find out.
AFCON 2022: Top 5 Favorites To Clinch The African Title Along With Betting Odds And Predictions
1. Senegal (7/2)
With Sadio Mane as captain, Senegal are the favourites to win the African Cup of Nations this time. After getting defeated at the hands of Algeria in the AFCON 2019 final, the Senegalese men will give it their absolute best to work their way towards redemption in 2022. It’s also going to be difficult scoring against Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment. Not to forget Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr who will also be making it to the Senegal squad.
2. Algeria (9/2)
The defending champions led by Manchester City right-winger Riyad Mahrez are the second favourites to win the African title. Even though it was Ismail Bennacer who received the Player of the Tournament back in 2019, we all know that Riyad Mahrez is Algeria’s big shot, who with the help of Said Benrahma will vie to defend their title.
- Egypt (6/1)
Having won the competition a total of seven times, which is more number of times than any nation, Egypt last won the competition in 2010. They are the third favourites with Egyptian king Mohamed Salah as their main man. Salah has been in exceptional form for Liverpool so far this season and hopefully he will bring his form to the African Cup of Nations as well, in order to guide Egypt to African glory.
- Ivory Coast (7/1)
Fourth favourites to win the tournament, the Ivory Coast national team has a Champions League star in their squad, none other than Ajax’s Sebastian Haller. Even though Ivory Coast is ranked 56th in the world at the moment, they can still surprise us all by lifting the AFCON trophy with the help of players like Haller, Ibrahim Sangare, Wilfried Zaha, Eric Bailly among others.
- Morocco (9/1)
And finally the fifth favourites to win the AFCON, Morocco last won the competition way back in 1976. They are the second-highest ranked team in the tournament but are still are the least favourites on this list to win the title. Hakim Ziyech has surprisingly not made it to the squad for the tournament but we can expect good performances from players like Achraf Hakimi, Youssef En-Nesyri and 24-year old Ilias Chair.
