India finished third with 3 points after 3 games in the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers after defeating Kuwait 2-1 in their final game and ensured they won’t return home empty-handed. Australia won Group H with three victories in three games, bagging total of nine points.

AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers Results, India vs Kuwait Score, Winner, & Qualified Teams
On Tuesday, India finally earned their first win in qualifiers for 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup after defeating Kuwait by score of 2-1 at the famed Al-Salem Stadium. For India, Taison Singh scored an early goal in 8th minute to gift India momentum of the match and it paid-off as India went into half-time with 1-0 lead. With less than 20 minutes on the clock, Indian defense loosened their guard, which allowed Al Mehtab from Kuwait to score an equalizer.
However, India continued to push for a winner and were immediately rewarded as Gurkirat Singh netted the winning goal in 76th minute. With this win, India finished third in Group H and despite missing out on spot in next year’s tournament, Indian squad showcased their potential especially Gurkirat, who netted 3 goals in 3 games.
As both teams entered the final group match with a perfect record, Australia’s biggest test of the group came against Iraq. Australian star Yaya Dukuly’s penalty was saved during first half but Iraq’s relief was short-lived as during 59th minute, Matthew Dench’s low cross from left-flank was converted by Gabriel Popovic to seal victory in the closely contested match. Iraq, despite the defeat, earned a spot in next year’s tournament by placing fourth among the five runner-up teams.
