Since February, Griner has been detained in Russia. She was detained on suspicion of carrying vape cartridges containing cannabis-derived oils through a Moscow airport.
She is thinking a lot while hoping and praying that someone would be able to get her back home soon.
Meanwhile, online users have discovered an old Instagram snapshot of Griner where she was topless.
Despite her current predicament, people on social media were curious about what was happening in this picture:
Griner entered a guilty plea to the narcotics charge to obtain a light punishment.
Brittney Griner is undoubtedly on our minds right now, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in Chicago. “Getting her home safely and as quickly as possible, of course, remains our first concern. She continues to have our full support.”
After publicly opposing the playing of the national anthem before the WNBA games in 2020, WNBA player Brittney Griner shot to the top of the public’s attention. She also started kneeling while it was being played, imitating Colin Kaepernick’s 2016 protest.
She is being detained in Russia on drug-related accusations, which carry a maximum 10-year sentence or perhaps a work camp. When she was stopped at Sheremetyevo International Airport, it was discovered that she had marijuana oil, which is prohibited in Russia.
Since then, the Phoenix Mercury star has been incarcerated. In response to Western sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February of this year, the US government has accused Russia of using her as leverage.
The world has learned about her detention. Her exile, nevertheless, doesn’t seem to have disturbed everyone. Her demonstrations infuriated some people, who seized the chance to make fun of the basketball player and her buddy Colin Kaepernick.
The Phoenix Mercury selected Griner with the first overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft. Griner would excel in her debut season, earning WNBA all-star honours and becoming a strong force on defence in the league with an average of 3.0 blocks per game. Griner equalled the WNBA dunk record on her debut on May 27, 2013, against the Chicago Sky, scoring two dunks to match Candace Parker’s career total.
