After defeating world No. 1 Akane Yamaguchi once more to advance to the Malaysia Masters semifinals, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung moved one step closer to become the first Indonesian woman’s singles player to win a Super 500 tournament on the World Tour. The world No. 31 defeated Akane 25-23, 15-21, and 21-10 in 55 minutes to demonstrate that her historic victory over the Japanese ace in the Malaysia Open first round last week wasn’t an aberration.

P.V. Sindhu, a former world champion, was eliminated from the Malaysia Masters 2022 after falling to Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Tai Tzu Ying on Friday at the Axiata Arena. The world’s No. 2 player in badminton, Tai Tzu of Chinese Taipei, defeated Sindhu, ranked seventh, in a 55-minute match. This was Sindhu’s 17th defeat in 22 games against Tai Tzu and her sixth consecutive loss.
The decider saw both shuttlers at the top of their game. However, Sindhu lost her rhythm and gave up points in quick succession after dropping two challenges. Prior to the break, she had been ahead for the most part. Then Tai Tzu took advantage of the opportunity and advanced to the BWF Super 500 badminton event semifinals.

Points Award System
The BWF scoring system was used to determine how many points should be given for each round of the BWF World Tour Super 500 competition. Winners of the Men’s Singles competition receive 9,200 BWF points, while losers receive 7,800. The enormous number of points up for grabs will undoubtedly inspire competitors who want to move up in the BWF World Rankings.

Prize Money Pool Distribution
The prizes for the 2022 Malaysia Masters will total US$360,000 once they have been paid out in accordance with BWF rules. Additionally, the singles category winner will receive $27,000 in prize money as opposed to the runner-up who would receive $13,680.
