A rare Michael Jordan rookie card was among the stolen artefacts from a memorabilia store, and it was all caught on camera. According to TMZ Sports, a male suspect removed metal bars from the store entrance and broke in through a back window when the Chicago-based shop was burglarized late last month.
The store was robbed at 3:44 a.m. on May 31, according to the Chicago Police Department. Before departing with the goods, the male suspect allegedly removed the metal bars from the business and broke the back window.
Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls for the first 13 years of his NBA career. From 1990-91 through 1997-98, he guided the team to six NBA championships in eight seasons. Hence his rookie cards valuable and rare gem for Basketball fans.
What Items were Robbed and Store Owner’s Reaction
Ronnie Holloway, the store’s owner, tweeted a video from the scene of the crime this week, showing a man behind the counter digging through a stack of sports cards.
According to Holloway, the suspect fled with stuff worth more than $100,000, including an unopened Fleer package containing MJ rookie cards, which he claims cost only $25,000. Other rare cards of Babe Ruth, Larry Bird, Jackie Robinson, and Walter Payton were also seized, according to Holloway.
Holloway has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to this person’s arrest or conviction. It will be tough to replace it, according to Holloway, because old cards cannot be replaced. Fans and collectors will be hoping that the shop owner will be able to refund the items or make the cards available for purchase once more.
