On Saturday, the much-anticipated Khelo India Youth Games 2022, Haryana, got off to a rousing start with Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurating the Games during a high-octane Opening Ceremony.

Manohar Lal, the Chief Minister of Haryana, and Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, addressed the sold-out crowd at the majestic Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex, which will host the majority of the medal fights over the next ten days.
2022 Khelo India Youth Games Schedule, Venue, Participating Teams, And Day 1 Leaders
Panchkula, Shahabad, Ambala, Chandigarh, and Delhi are among the cities hosting KIYG 2021. Haryana is the selected host for the Khelo India Youth Games 2021, with the first three cities being in the north Indian state. At Khelo India Youth Games 2021, 4,700 athletes from all 36 Indian states and union territories will compete, including 2,262 women. This would be the first time the youth meet has a pan-India representation.
With 398 athletes, hosts Haryana will have the largest representation at KIYG 2021. Maharashtra, the defending champions, has the second-largest contingent at the Games, with 357 athletes. At KIYG 2021, medals will be awarded in 264 different events spanning 25 different sports. Mallakhamb, gatka, kalaripayattu, thang-ta, and yogasana, five indigenous sports, will make their KIYG debut this year.
The struggle for supremacy in the Khelo India Youth Games 2021 got on in earnest on Sunday, June 5, with defending champions Maharashtra leaping into the lead early in the morning with 9 gold medals.
However, by late evening, hosts Haryana had battled their way back into the competition, taking second place with a total of six gold medals. They have, however, already won the most medals, with 23 (5 gold, 6 silver, and 12 bronze) to Maharashtra’s 17. (9 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze).
2022 Khelo India Youth Games Latest Results, Standings, And Medal Table
Two new youth national records in weightlifting were also set on a day full of excitement and dramatic twists and turns. Maharashtra won three of the four gold medals available in weightlifting, as well as three gold medals in yoga and one gold medal in cycling, while Haryana demonstrated their supremacy on the wrestling mat by winning all five gold medals available, as well as one gold medal in cycling.
Manipur finished third in the medal count, with four gold medals in Thang-ta, an indigenous sport that was brought to the Khelo India programme for the first time.
Kajol Sargar (women’s 40kg) of Maharashtra won the first medal of the Games, lifting a total of 113 kg (50kg in snatch and 63 in Clean and Jerk). Harshada Garud, a fellow state athlete, then rewrote the Youth National Record in the women’s 45kg division, defeating Uttar Pradesh’s Anjali Patel.
