Since first being launched in 2008, the Indian Premier League has become one of the world’s best cricket competitions but RCB once again floundered in IPL 2022
Based on a Twenty20 format, its mixture of big hits, awesome fielding and world-class wicket taking has really caught on with fans across the UK.
2022’s IPL has been no exception and has seen some teams in fine form so far this season. Royal Challengers Bangalore certainly fit the bill and have impressed fans on their road to the playoffs. But just how have they made it there and can they actually win the whole tournament?

What are RCB’s chances in IPL 2022?
Before we take a closer look at how RCB have made it to the playoffs, it is worth looking at their initial chances in them and also how fancied they are to win the whole IPL in 2022. By doing this, you not only get a better idea of how far they might go this year but also gain insight into their chances if you consider betting on them. If you do plan to place a bet on RCB, remember to first find a reputable list of online bookmakers to sign up with for sports betting in the UK.
As of now, most bookmakers have them around evens to beat Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming playoff match. Beyond that, they are sitting at around 5/1 to clinch the title. As this shows, they are not exactly strong favourites to win the IPL this season – but this doesn’t mean they can’t do it.
What has been RCB’s road to the 2022 IPL playoffs?
In short, it has been a bit complicated! The 2022 IPL season was a long and gruelling affair as usual – with RCB not certain to make the cut at one point.
In terms of the regular season, they enjoyed a decent campaign, although only did just about enough to scrape into the playoffs by the end of it! Their record come season end was eight wins and six losses from 14 games. This showed that they could be inconsistent at times but also capable of beating the best sides on their day. Their four-wicket victory over the Royals with just five balls left in early April was proof of this, as was their eight-wicket win over the Titans in RCB’s final regular season match.
Despite a generally decent campaign, though, RCB were not guaranteed of a playoff berth heading into the final stages of the season. After the side’s win against the Titans in their final game, they headed into fourth spot in the table but were still not assured of a playoff place.
This left RCB waiting on the outcome of the game between the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. If the Capitals won, they would gain the fourth playoff slot instead of RCB. The Indians, though, took a five-wicket win and this saw RCB marching on.
Do RCB have what it takes to win the IPL?
If we assume that they have enough to make it through their eliminator match against LSG, we really have to consider next whether RCB have enough in the tank to win the trophy. With the Gujarat Titans defeat of the Rajasthan Royals in the first playoff match leaving them as the next team to face, it will not be easy
If you look at the leadership needed to win competitions, you have to feel they are in great shape, though. Du Plessis is an experienced player who also has Virat Kohli to rely on for support. This leaves the side with superb leadership to propel them forward.
Their batting lineup is also very good and this could help them win their first IPL title. Kohli is naturally the standout here but others like Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell also merit attention. If they can rack up big scores and the team’s top bowlers (Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj) can play to their best, RCB have a good chance.
RCB looking for a maiden IPL title
Although the team from Bangalore have been in IPL playoffs and finals before, they have not yet clinched the trophy. This would make a win in 2022 extra special for them and something their supporters would really enjoy. With LSG and then the Titans to get past first, it will be no easy task. The talent they have in their ranks, though, means they have every chance, now that they have made it into post-season.
