French Open 2022 Qualifying Draw, Results, Score, Schedule, Dates, Wild Cards, Players List
The road to the Roland Garros title is simple for some players but not for everyone in the tournament participating.
In addition, Emma Raducanu becomes the first qualifier with Grand Slam. When she won the US Open in 2021, the British made history as the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam championship in the Open Era. The British youngster did not drop a set in qualifying or the event, demonstrating that qualifiers can upset Grand Slams.
No qualifier advanced to the fourth round of the 2021 French Open, while Spain’s emerging star Carlos Alcaraz and Henri Laaksonen both advanced to the third round of the men’s singles.
How Does The Roland Garros Qualifying Work?
The top 104 men and women who register for the French Open are automatically qualified for the Grand Slam. Players can also qualify through the protected ranking system, which guarantees that a previous high ranking will be honoured even if a player declines due to injury or inactivity. Stan Wawrinka, for example, will compete in 2022 using this approach despite dropping to No. 246 at the start of May.
For individuals who do not have a high enough rating or a protected ranking, qualification rounds are held, with 16 seats available. Players are divided into 16 groups of eight, with the winner of three consecutive games in their section earning a spot in the final.
When Is The Roland Garros Qualifying Draw?
The qualifying rounds already kicked off on May 16 and will run for four days until May 20. The main tournament will begin on May 22.
