Hou has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1996, most recently as the deputy director-general for South Asian affairs before being named ambassador. She has also served as the consul of the Chinese Consulate-General in Los Angeles and Pakistan. She has been praised for her use of Twitter to boost China’s soft power.
Hou is happily married and is a mother of a boy. She also speaks Urdu, a language in which she majored at Peking University.
Her Influence In Nepal And How Is It Affecting Nepal’s Foreign Relations With India?
Due to China’s growing political influence in Nepal, ties between neighbouring countries Nepal and India deteriorated earlier in 2020. Nepal’s Parliament passed the Constitution Amendment Bill in June 2020, approving the country’s new map, which includes the Indian territories of Limpiadhura, Lipulek, and Kalapani.
