Surbhi Panchal was reported to be found dead in her hostel room on Monday, April 4th, 2022. She was rushed to the S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. The doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Who Was Surbhi Panchal?
Surbhi Panchal was a student in her second year. She was pursuing law and belonged to the Scheduled Tribe community. This student was hailed from Haryana.
Her parents are in shock as they never expected that their daughter will end up her life in such away.
The cause behind her alleged suicide has not yet been out and announced. The police authorities have initiated an investigation into this matter of suicide and have sent the body of the student for a post-mortem examination.
The Administration of the university informed all the students via email that classes have been suspended on 5th April 2022, “Due to the sudden and unfortunate demise of one of our beloved students, the classes of the whole college shall be suspended today, i.e. 05 April 2022,” in the official mail.
The death of this law student has shocked the student community to a great extent as it has taken place in one of India’s premier law schools around. A group of students gathered for a protest meet at the campus at night alleging that the University administration has not extended any support or cooperation; the students blamed the suicide of the student on the University.
Another student anonymously said that, “Over the last few weeks, the students have been subjected to mental and physical agony. The vice-chancellor of the University, VedKumari’s reign has been characterized by abuse, arbitrary decision making, and demonizing of the students their way. We were heartbroken and grieving last night.”
After interrogation from the Law University the Vice-Chancellor and director, the University Registrar responded that the suicide was linked to depression and not due to any pressure from the administration of the University.
While her exact date of birth isn’t known, she was aged 18-21 years.
