With two red-flag stops and a long battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in a stunning location by the Red Sea was every bit as thrilling and dramatic as it had promised to be, with two red-flag stops and the Mercedes driver coming out on top.

That outcome set up an eventually contentious title decider in Abu Dhabi, but with a one-two finish for the Scuderia in the season’s first race in Bahrain, Charles Leclerc and Ferrari currently lead the respective standings.

Where will the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix be held in 2022?

Given the short timeframe in which the circuit was built, its designer Carsten Tilke described the Jeddah Corniche Circuit as one of Formula 1’s “most audacious undertakings.”

It was also designed with the goal of becoming the world’s fastest street circuit, with 27 curves and tight barriers creating a challenging environment for drivers to navigate.

The majority of the 6.174-kilometer track is built around high-speed kinks and turns, with most straights featuring some type of arc — as was also the case in Sochi, which has since been taken from the calendar.

Following the success of the redesigned Zandvoort circuit, banking was added to the hairpin Turn 13, assisting drivers as they navigated the middle sector.

Since the initial race in December, safety improvements have been made, including greater sightlines, however authorities claim the circuit may be “a little bit faster” as a result.
