Prashant Rana is a 24 years old cricketer from a remote village in Nayagarh district. He was passionate and focused on cricket since childhood however he was being born in a poor family his father could not afford to pay for his cricket fees.
Prashant made recognition for himself in village cricket tournaments and also played tennis cricket tournaments during his school days. In an interview, he said he was so fond of cricket that after appearing for the board exams in school he went straight to practice cricket.
In 2012, he started working in a private company investigating fire safety measures in hotels. And he got a salary of 14000 rupees/monthly. However, due to this hectic schedule, he could not practice for cricket.
After that, he started working as an assistant with a plumber for Rs 210 per day. But for this, he had to work all day, but he talked about working for half a day. He used to cycle 40 km daily between his rented house and the cricket ground of Union Sporting Club for practicing cricket.
How Destiny turned a plumber into a Ranji Player
The special thing about Prashanth is his sheer dedication, hard work and never giving up attitude which gained the attraction of selectors. He worked as a plumber for 9 years along with practicing cricket and he is a quality swing bowler who can pick the bowl quickly after pitching.
He was called to a state-level selection camp in October 2021 where he got selected to play for the Ranji team of Odisha. His journey sets an example to all then young cricketers who are struggling and leading a life of poverty it’s about attitude have an attitude of a lion never give up and fight till the end and see the magic things happen.
