Laurent Mekies has stepped in as the new CEO of Red Bull Racing following the dismissal of Christian Horner on July 9, 2025. The French engineer moves into the role with immediate effect, marking a major leadership shift within the Formula 1 powerhouse. Born on April 28, 1977, in Tours, France, Mekies pursued mechanical engineering at the École supérieure des techniques aéronautiques et de construction automobile in Paris. He later earned a master’s degree from Loughborough University in the UK.
His Formula 1 journey began in 2001 with Arrows as a race engineer. A year later, he joined Minardi, which was eventually rebranded as Toro Rosso under Red Bull ownership. After a 12-year stint, Mekies transitioned to the FIA as a safety director before joining Ferrari in 2018, where he rose to the position of race director. In 2023, he left Ferrari and joined Racing Bulls, Red Bull’s sister outfit, as Team Principal.
From the start of the 2024 season, Mekies played a key role in shaping the new team’s direction alongside CEO Peter Bayer.
