Anayatul Wadud accused in Namrata Bora Case
An AIUDF youth leader named Anayatul Wadud, is currently at the centre of the investigation into Namrata Bora’s mysterious death. Namrata had recently travelled to Shillong with four of her friends, namely, Wadud, Mriganka Boruah, Pragya Dihingia, and Gayatri Bora. As the group were returning to Guwahati, their car allegedly met with an accident near Nongpoh around 5:30 am. While Namrata died on the spot, the other four friends seemingly escaped with minor injuries.
However, Namrata’s family do not believe the accident narrative and her brother, Rishabhananda Bora has instead filed an FIR at Nongpoh Police Station naming all four of the companions as suspects. The family has also filed a second complaint at Dispur Police Station in Assam, alleging inconsistencies in the companions’ statements. In the complaint, he raised the suspicion about Anayatul and Gayatri fleeing the scene.
Namrata was pronounced dead at Nongpoh Civil Hospital, while the other four were only slightly hurt.
According to one of the survivors, her oxygen level had dropped to 13% upon reaching the hospital and the Meghalaya police have since detained the four individuals for questioning and conducted a post-mortem at Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
The incident has drawn all kinds of intense public scrutiny, with Anayatul Wadud and the other three other companions facing all kinds of suspicions and backlash.

According to various reports, the Meghalaya Police are currently conducting a full-scale investigation and have detained all four companions for questioning. Authorities have conducted a postmortem but have not yet released the report. Notably, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally urged his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma to ensure a thorough and fair investigation of the incident. Meanwhile, Assam Police are also still conducting a parallel preliminary probe over the matter.
In response to the incident, Namrata’s father, Ramen Bora, has also raised troubling questions about the circumstances surrounding her death. Ramen pointed out that Namrata left her iPhone behind and stepped out in casual attire, which he states was uncharacteristic of her.
