Following the incident, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office is still awaiting the results of the investigation before filing formal charges.
Inmate who stabbed Tory Lanez identified as Santino Casio
Authorities from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) recently confirmed that an inmate Santino Casio is responsible for allegedly stabbing Tory Lanez. The incident took place at around 7:20 a.m. on Monday, May 12, at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, California. Santino reportedly stabbed fellow inmate Tory Lanez about 14 times— seven in the back, four in the torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. The stabbing took place in Lanez’s housing unit and authorities quickly rushed him to a hospital in Bakersfield. Lanez had both his lungs collapsed, and he was immediately placed on a breathing apparatus.

Santino Casio is a 42-year-old man, standing at 172m who was recently charged with attacking Tory Lanez behind bars. Notably, Casio is no stranger to prison violence and has been serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole since 2004. Back in 2008, Casio received an additional six-year sentence for assaulting another inmate with a deadly weapon. And over a decade later, he received two more years for possessing and manufacturing weapons inside prison. Based on a CDCR mugshot dated June 7, 2022, Casio is a bald and heavily tattooed inmate.
Lanez was recently hospitalization after being stabbed 14 times by convicted killer Santino Casio at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he is serving a sentence for three felony gun-related charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
Charges and accusations
Following the attack, Santino Casio now faces potential charges for allegedly stabbing Lanez. As of now, the CDCR has not yet confirmed the motive, and the District Attorney’s Office are yet to decide on formal charges. Meanwhile, Lanez is currently under a 10-year-sentence served in December 2022 for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Megan reportedly testified during his trial, stating that Lanez shouted “dance b****” before firing at her feet. She reportedly had to undergo surgery in order to remove her bullet fragments. Lanez is eligible for parole only in 2029 despite the brutal attack, his team stated that he is in good spirits.
