Padmakar Shivalkar who participated in 124 first-class matches and took 589 wickets at 19.69 between 1961–1962 and 1987–1988, is regarded as one of the best spinners to have never represented India. The 22-year-old left-arm spinner made his Ranji Trophy debut and played until he was 48, taking 361 wickets in the process.

84-year-old Indian first-class cricketer Padmakar Kashinath Shivalkar was born on September 14, 1940, and died on March 3, 2025. He was 5ft 6in tall. Padmakar was a graduate by education. Padmakar Shivalkar, who was considered one of the best spinners to have never played for India, died due to age-related health issues on Monday, leaving behind his wife, son and daughter but the names of his family members aren’t known. The Indian team wore black armbands on Tuesday during their 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final vs Australia in his memory.

Padmakar Shivalkar a slow left-arm orthodox bowler who played for Bombay for more than 20 years, holds the record for most wickets taken by the team. When he retired, he was nearly 50. The BCCI’s highest honour given to a former player, the C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, was given to him in 2016.
Shivalkar’s career paralleled Bishan Bedi’s, although he was unfortunate not to be picked for the Indian Test team. In 1973–74, he travelled to Sri Lanka with a formidable Indian team, participating in both games and claiming four wickets.
He took 8 for 16 and 5 for 18 for Bombay against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy final in 1972–73, which was his finest bowling performance to date. His records against Mysore in the previous season’s semi-final were 8 for 19 and 5 for 31.
Shivalkar attended Fort, Mumbai’s Siddharth College of Arts, Science, and Commerce. Padmakar Shivalkar’s novel, Ha Chendu Daivagaticha, has been released. Dimple Publications and Ananda Yatri, a group of friends of Shri Padmakar Shivalkar, released the book, which was put together by Shri Arun Ghadigaokar.

On March 4, 2025, in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Indian squad was spotted playing Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy semifinal while sporting black armbands.
