The video of Sean Abbott’s ball to Phillip/Phil Hughes has reemerged
As family and friends remembered the late Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes on Wednesday, the tenth anniversary of his untimely death from a blow to the neck while batting, Sean Abbott was seen blotting away tears.
During a 2014 Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Abbott sent down the delivery that killed Phillip Hughes.

On day four of their Sheffield Shield encounter against Tasmania at the SCG, NSW players comforted Abbott as they stood for an emotional tribute that included a minute’s silence before play began. Three days prior to his 26th birthday, Hughes, who represented Australia in 26 Test matches, 25 ODIs, and one T20I, passed away after Sean Abbott’s 135 kmph bouncer struck the 25 year old Australian cricketer.
“Today marks the 10-year anniversary of the passing of our treasured son and brother, Phillip Joel Hughes,” the family said in its message.
Local media outlets have reported that Abbott was asked beforehand if he would feel comfortable with a game being held on the anniversary of one of the darkest events in Australian sports. He always wanted to make people around him happy and appreciate the small things in life, where his lovely smile would come to life, the family added. We adored everything about him, and his ability to shine through difficult situations is a credit to his character.
Batting on 63, Hughes passed unconscious and was transferred to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney after undergoing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
However, Hughes was unable to bounce back from the blow and passed away on November 27. During a period of transition for the squad, the left-hander was considered one of the most promising Australian cricket players.
As part of a two-week commemorative program, Cricket Australia will air a special documentary about him prior to the second Test match between Australia and India during the BGT series in 2024.
Phillip Hughes’ debut
In his remarkable ODI debut, Phillip Hughes struck 14 boundaries and amassed 112 (129) runs. In his brief international career, the left-hander has participated in 26 Test matches, 25 ODIs, and one T20I, amassing 2367 runs across all three formats, including five hundreds and eleven fifties.
