Konda Surekha career
In 1995, Konda Surekha was chosen to serve as Mandal Parishad. She was elected as a Shayampet M.L.A. in 1999 after being selected as a PCC member in 1996. In 1999, she joined the Women & Child Welfare Committee, the Health Committee, and the Primary Education Standing Committee. She also became the Treasurer of the Congress Legislature Party. In 2000, she was designated as an AICC member.
She was chosen as the Shahampet MLA in 2004 and served as the Congress party’s official spokeswoman that same year. In 2005, she was appointed as the Municipal Corporation’s Ex Officio Member. She was sworn in as Minister for Women’s Development & Child Welfare, Disabled & Juvenile Welfare in 2009 after winning the Parkal MLA election.
Under Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, she held the positions of Minister for Women Development & Child Welfare and Minister for the Disabled & Juvenile Welfare. However, she resigned following YSR’s passing because his son, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, was not appointed the Chief Minister despite the backing of the majority of MLAs.
On July 4, 2011, she resigned from her MLA seat, first for the Jagan cause and then after YSR’s name appeared in the FIR. She ran for the YSR Congress Party in the June 12, 2012, by-elections from the Parkal assembly constituency.
She left the YSRC party in July 2013 due to mistreatment she had received from members of the Jagan Mohan Reddy Party.
She took the oath of office as Telangana’s cabinet minister on December 7, 2023, and on December 9, 2024, the Revanth Reddy Ministry gave her the portfolios of Environment and Forests and Endowments as part of the Congress government.
