On social media, a video of an elderly Muslim man named Haji Ashraf Munyar being physically and verbally attacked by fellow passengers on a Maharashtra train who claimed he was carrying beef has drawn a lot of backlash
In the video, Haji Ashraf Munyar was asked if the meat he was carrying was beef, and a group of guys were shown assaulting and slapping him repeatedly. According to reports, the attack happened in the Nashik area close to the town of Igatpuri.
On Saturday, the Thane district’s Government Railway Police submitted the initial information report in the case. Mediawas informed by a railway police official that the event occurred on August 28.

Haji Ashraf Munyar, a Jalgaon district native, was reportedly on his way to his daughter’s house in Kalyan, a city close to Mumbai. He was abused and badly beaten up by goons in a train near Igatpuri alleging him of carrying beef and was admitted in a Mumbai hospital.
Following the attack, rumors circulated suggesting that he had committed suicide but these claims have been refuted by his family who confirmed that he is currently at his daughter’s house in Kalyan and his son, Ashfaq, has filed a police complaint at the Igatpuri Railway Police station.

Action against suspects
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’s sections on rioting, unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint, causing hurt, criminal intimidation, mischief causing loss or damage, and deliberate insult with purpose to incite breach of peace are the ones under which the accused men have been booked.
Leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and former MP for Aurangabad, Imtiaz Jaleel, commented on the attack and said that people could no longer let such crimes happen in silence. In order to resist forces of hatred, he argued, all secular-minded Indians should band together.
There were reports going about after the incident that the old guy had killed himself. His family, who verified that he is currently at his daughter’s home in Kalyan, has denied these allegations. At the Igatpuri Railway Police station, his son Ashfaq has made a police complaint.
