Some say jiu jitsu came from ancient Greece, while others think it originated in India and was used by Buddhist monks as a self-defence tactic against bandits.

The skilled fighters known as samurai employed this martial style. When the fighter was on foot and without armour in a battlefield, this martial technique proved useful. It is renowned in Japan as the “Gentle Art” or “the Art of Suppleness.”

It imparts the knowledge of adaptable body language to combat violence. Throws, locks, chokeholds, hitting, and grappling is all part of the art. This martial art teaches not only how to dominate physically but also how to face down a formidable foe.

When Takenouchi Hisamori established the first Jiu-Jitsu school in 1532, the name “Jiu-Jitsu” was first mentioned in writing. Later, it made its way to South America thanks to Japanese diplomat Mitsyuo Maeda, who instructed Carlos Gracie, the family’s eldest son, in the martial arts of Japan.

Aikido

The 20th century saw the creation of this Japanese martial art by martial artist Morihei Ueshiba. Aikido is a branch of Jiu-Jitsu that translates to “way of harmonizing energy.” Of the nine recognized martial arts in Japan, aikido is rightfully the most prominent. The majority of the movements in this art form are Ueshiba’s inventions.

Its founder wanted to create a martial art that embodied his ideas of world peace and harmony in addition to being a fighting discipline. Instead of winning, the emphasis is on self-defence and personal development. In traditional Aikido, practitioners practice self-union with their bodies through displays rather than competitions.
