Gunaratne reached her century with a boundary off Arlene Kelly in the 31st over of Sri Lanka’s innings. Unfortunately, she was dismissed on the very next delivery, caught by Leah Paul.

Taking to X, Sri Lanka Cricket, shared a video of the cricketer, captioning, “Vishmi Gunaratne blasts her way into the record books with her maiden ODI century! The second Sri Lankan woman to achieve this feat. What a moment!”
Notably, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu is the only other Sri Lankan woman to score centuries in limited-overs internationals, with nine tons in the 50-over format and three in T20Is.
About Vishmi Gunaratne
Vishmi Gunaratne, whose full name is Rajapaksha Mudiyanselage Vishmi Dewmini Gunaratne, born on August 22, 2005, is a Sri Lankan cricketer who currently plays for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and the Sri Lanka national team as a right-handed batter.
Vishmi’ s family was living in Algama village in Warakapola and she started her schooling at Algama Kanishta Vidyalaya and when she passed the grade five scholarship exam she got a chance to enter Gampaha Ratnawali BMV and that was the turning point of her sporting career.
Vishmi’s father Aruna Shantha Gunaratne is an engineer by profession and was a talented sprinter at Tholangamuwa Central who shone at National level
Vishmi’ s brother Kavieesha Anupama is a former Bandaranayke College Gampaha cricketer while her elder sister Nethmi Nimsara is playing cricket at Ratnawali BMV. Her religion isn’t known though.
Previously, she made headlines in 2022, while playing for her school, Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Gunaratne by scoring the first-ever quadruple century in Sri Lanka Girls’ cricket, with an astonishing 417 runs off 128 balls against Jayasiripura KV.
Standing at 5 ft. 3 inches, Vishmi Gunaratne also made a notable contribution to Chilaw Marians Cricket Club during the 2021–22 Sri Lanka Women’s Division One Tournament, scoring 138 against Sri Lanka Army Sports Club Second XI.
Although selected for Sri Lanka’s squad in the 2021 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, she did not get the opportunity to play. She made her Twenty20 International debut on January 18, 2022, in the 2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket Qualifier against Scotland, scoring 8 runs as an opener.
In January 2023, Gunaratne captained Sri Lanka’s squad in the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, finishing as the team’s leading run-scorer with 134 runs at an average of 44.66.
