About Manolo Marquez
For the unfamiliar, Manuel “Manolo” Márquez Roca, born September 7, 1968, is a Spanish professional football manager and a former player. He currently serves as the head coach of both Indian Super League club Goa and the Indian national football team.
Born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Márquez played for CE Cerdanyola, Santfeliuenc FC, CF Montañesa, CD Granollers, FC Martinenc, UA Horta, CF Badalona, and Penya Barcelonista Anguera before retiring professionally at the age of 28.
Márquez began his managerial career with his last club, PB Anguera, in 2002. After managing AE Prat in two separate stints and spending one season at Tercera División side CE Europa, he was appointed manager of Segunda División B club Badalona on 5 June 2010.
On 2 June 2023, Márquez was named the head coach of Goa on a multi-year deal. On Saturday, Jul 20, 2024 he was appointed as the head coach of Indian national team.

The Spanish former player has been appointed as Igor Stimac’s successor after the latter was sacked following India’s failure to advance to the third round of the FIFA qualifying matches.
He entered Indian football in 2020 as the head coach of the Indian Super League team Hyderabad FC. He later coached FC Goa and will now lead the national football team.
Addressing the appointment, All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Shri Kalyan Chaubey commented that they are delighted to welcome Marquez as he expressed his thanks to FC Goa.
Marquez’s salary is upwards of $25,000 per month at FC Goa but his salary as the Indian football team head coach isn’t known yet. AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey will oversee the salary negotiations with Marquez with him likely to be paid the same as Igor Stimac who was given $30,000 or Rs.25 lakhs montly.
