Notably, ever since its inception in 2021, there have been three different Commissioner’s Cup winners.
WNBA Commissioner’s Cup
The WNBA Commissioner’s Cup is an in-season tournament that features all 12 teams from the WNBA. Despite the competition taking place simultaneously with the ongoing season, it is the only game that does not count toward a team’s overall record. Last year, the Liberty emerged as the champions after edging out the Aces.
WNBA Commissioner’s Cup format
The 2024 Commissioner’s Cup will feature each team playing a total of five games. Each team will play one game against each of their in-conference opponents. All the games will be regular-season games and count toward each team’s overall record. By the end of the first round, the team with the best record from each conference will play in the Commissioner’s Cup Championship. This year’s competition will take place on Tuesday, June 25, at the home arena of the team with the best record.
WNBA Commissioner’s Cup prize money
The competition is set to feature a total prize pool worth $500,000. Since each team will have a minimum of 11 players and a maximum of 12 players, the players from the winning team will each receive an average of around $41,700 per player.
