Fortunately, all drivers involved are uninjured, though Perezโ€™s RB20 was heavily damaged.

Perez started the Monaco GP in 18th place after a disappointing qualifying session.

Shortly after the race began, he was hit by Magnussen, causing him to lose control and spin. His uncontrollable RB20 then collided with Hulkenberg.

Magnussen is fortunate that the stewards deemed it a racing incident, as he is only two points away from a race ban.

What Exactly Happened?

Perez managed to climb out of his Red Bull after a collision with the two Haas drivers, leaving debris strewn across the Monte Carlo circuit.

Battling at the back of the grid while heading up the hill out of Ste. Devote, Perez was fending off a determined Kevin Magnussen, who kept his front wheels aligned with the rear wheels of the Red Bull as the gap narrowed.

The two cars made contact, causing Perez to spin into the barriers. Both he and Magnussen slid along the barriers, ripping the wheels off the RB20 and scattering debris across the track.

Nico Hulkenberg, closely following behind, tried to navigate through the gap on the left to avoid the incident but was tagged by Perezโ€™s car and spun out. All three cars were immediately eliminated from the race.

What Did Kevin Magnussen Say?

Magnussen, who had a clear view of the incident, sighed over the radio, confirming he was okay and remarking, โ€œAh damn it, that was unnecessary.โ€

Kevin Magnussen explained to the media after the crash, โ€œFrom my perspective, I had a significant portion of my front alongside Perezโ€™s rear. When he hit the wall, I got pushed into it and then into him.โ€

He continued, โ€œI trusted that he would leave enough space for me since I was already there. Itโ€™s not a corner where you brake; itโ€™s just a slight bend on the straight.โ€

โ€œYou need to allow a carโ€™s width, otherwise, the other driver has no option. Itโ€™s unfortunate, thereโ€™s a substantial cost to the team, a lot of work for the crew, and a missed opportunity.โ€

Meanwhile, the two Alpines collided heavily through Portier, with Esteban Oconโ€™s car being thrown into the air as he attempted to overtake Pierre Gasly.
