RuPaul’s Drag Race’s sixteenth season was won by her.

Nymphia Wind became the first person of East Asian heritage to win an episode of the American series when she was declared the champion of RuPaul’s Drag Race in season 16.

28-year-old Nymphia Wind was born on July 23, 1995 in Taiwan. In late 2022, Nymphia relocated to New York City. She is 5ft 6in tall and 63 kg in weight.

Her mother, who frequently attends her performances and assists her with drag is one of her most supportive family members. She graduated from the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester, England with a Bachelor of Arts in fashion atelier.

Nymphia Wind career

Nymphia Wind was motivated by K-pop girl groups to pursue her passion for fashion and drag while attending her university in London. She went to Brooklyn in late 2022 after doing drag in Taipei since 2018. “Banana Buddha” is how she refers to herself, and “Banana Believers” are her followers.

Yellow is Nymphia’s hallmark colour and she frequently incorporates Taiwanese cultural aspects and bananas into her performances.

During her debut season16 episode on MTV, she gave a traditional Asian sleeve dance performance. She showcased a number of her own creations on the main stage over the season, including a Butoh-themed piece constructed of dried flowers and a stunning red garment in observance of Lunar New Year.

In an episode that aired earlier this month, Wind talked about how difficult it was for her to grow up in Taiwan and how the West’s standards of beauty which she claimed were all qualities shared by white people.

She claimed that because of her Asian ancestry, she frequently fretted that no one would find her attractive, which drove her to start wearing drag and makeup.

She said, โ€œI always played with makeup and cross-dressing,โ€ Wind said. โ€œI felt like I could really change up how I look and I can escape my face in a sense.โ€
