The family of a 20-year-old girl from MP’s Shivpuri district claims that someone abducted her for ransom in Kota, Rajasthan, while she was preparing for NEET. Kota city SP Amrita Duhan has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for any information that could lead to her safe return. Sources reveal that Kota Police informed Shivpuri cops about their progress in the case, stating they are questioning a suspect in Sindhi Camp in Jaipur.

What happened to Kavya Dhakad?
MP Police identified the missing NEET aspirant as Kavya Dhakad, daughter of Raghuveer Dhakad, who manages a school in Bairad town, approximately 50km from Shivpuri district headquarters and 250km from Kota. At around 3 pm on Monday, Kavya’s father received disturbing WhatsApp images of her, bound and gagged. The messages also contained a ransom demand of Rs 30 lakh, bank account details, and a threat to harm her if payment wasn’t made by evening.
Raghuveer sought help from Barida police, who then contacted Kota authorities. On Tuesday, Kota CSP Duhan stated that a case of abduction for ransom was filed under Section 364A IPC, and police formed teams for search and investigation. Shivpuri SP Aman Singh Rathod and senior officers are coordinating with Kota police in the search for Kavya.
Who is behind the kidnapping of Kavya?
Raghuveer informed the police that they had relocated from Indore to Shivpuri two years ago due to similar threats to Kavya. He mentioned two individuals — Anurag Soni and Harshit — in his complaint. After residing in Shivpuri for six months, Kavya went to Kota in September 2023 for NEET preparation. Her father informed the police that she was attending a coaching institute in the Vigyan Nagar area.
However, after investigating, neither the institute nor the hostel where she supposedly stayed had any record of her presence. Circle officer DSP Yogesh Sharma confirmed that the messages regarding Kavya’s test performance sent to her parents were apparently not from any coaching institute. It’s possible that Kavya messaged fake reports to deceive her family.
