Baltimore native Jason Palmer recently went viral for defeating President Joe Biden in American Samoa’s Democratic caucus. Palmer won in the territory despite doing most of his campaigning over a screen and never even campaigning on the collection of islands. The territory’s caucus featured just 91 ballots, out of which Palmer received 51 and Biden 40. Following his win, Palmer shared:
I found out that I had won because my phone started blowing up with friends and campaign staffers texting me. I have been campaigning remotely, doing Zoom town halls, talking to people, and listening to them about their concerns and what matters to them.”
