“We need to get the vaccine,” Rafael Nadal Comments On Novak Djokovic Having His Visa Denied Ahead Of The 2022 Australian Open

Rafael Nadal believes Novak Djokovic could have staved the entire situation of not playing in the Australian Open 2022 by getting vaccinated

Looking set to miss the Australian Open 2022 after refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine, Novak Djokovic was accorded with an opportunity to defend his showpiece title after getting an exemption. However, the decision saw colossal outrage erupt in Australia with people livid at the preferential treatment given to the Serb as the pandemic ravaged the country and the country’s citizens had to endure a mammoth lockdown.

Djokovic ultimately has been denied entry into Australia after his visa was canceled owing to him not having valid medical exemption as revealed by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. While Djokovic’s legal team has sought an urgent injunction against the Australian Border Forces’ decision to revoke his visa, the 34 year old looks extremely unlikely to feature in the marquee event later this month.

A decision on his future though will be made clearer by the country’s Federal Court which has adjourned the decision until Monday on whether he will be allowed to remain in Australia or be deported.

Rafael Nadal has now weighed in on the entire set of events with him talking about how Djokovic knew the consequences of his actions and how it was prudent to take the vaccination as the new Omicron variant engulfed the world.

“He made his own decisions, and everybody is free to take their own decisions, but then there are some consequences,” Nadal said in Melbourne.

“Seems some rough situation, but at the end of the day, the only thing that I can say is we have been going through very challenging [times] and a lot of families have been suffering a lot during the last two years with all the pandemic.

“From my point of view, that’s the only thing that I can say is I believe in what the people who know about medicine say, and if the people say that we need to get vaccinated, we need to get the vaccine,” the Spaniard continued.
