Just when it looked like things couldn’t get any worse as the new Omicron variant of the Coronavirus pummels Europe and the UK, slowly spreading its wings to Asia, Israel has gone onto report the first ever case of Florona in the world.

The Florona disease is a double infection of COVID-19 and the influenza virus with Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot reporting that the disease was detected in a woman who was admitted to the Rabin Medical Centre to give birth this week The woman in question was unvaccinated.

Israel has seen a massive surge of influenza cases as well with 1,849 patients in just one week as per the CDC and Israeli Ministry of Health. The country has till now reported 1,380,053 COVID-19 cases and 8,243 deaths with Israeli Ministry of Health approving administration of the fourth booster shot against COVID-19 for adults at high risk along with asking people to take the influenza shot.

While the symptoms of COVID-19 are well documented, influenza can cause severe symptoms such as pneumonia, myocarditis and sometimes even death. A person who is diagnosed with Florona has symptoms of both the diseases or at time of only one disease with it said to be fatal for the patient if not treated at the earliest plausible with the immune system collapsing rapidly.

While this is the first reported case of Florona in the world, doctors believe that there are already a hoard of undetected cases on a global level.
